1. The solid oak Vancouver furniture range is made using solid American oak that includes some knots and small cracks along with the natural rustic grain of solid oak.  This is perfectly normal and typical of the Vancouver solid American oak range.  Some of these cracks will have wood filler in them to seal the knots as this looks much better than cutting out the knot and replacing it with new oak which may be of a different shade and be more unsightly.

2. Solid oak furniture expands and contracts with changes in temperature and humidity and we don't recommend that the furniture is kept in very hot rooms next to radiators or strong direct sunlight for prolonged periods.  We advise that the room that the table is stored in is kept as cool as possible for the first few weeks to allow it to adjust gradually to the dryer conditions inside a modern home.

3. The Vancouver dining tables are designed to allow the oak sections within the table structure to move slightly between the hot and cold temperature variations that some homes will experience in the UK.  Some table may have gaps of up to 2 - 3mm in places in the section of the table tops as the solid oak adjusts to the dry warm environment of a UK home and this is perfectly normal and is part of the design of the table to cope with the natural movements of solid oak.  We recommend that bees wax is applied to these small gaps to reduce their visibility in extreme cases which will allow the gaps to close up naturally and for the wax to move with any gaps.

4. Any liquid spillages on the Vancouver oak furniture should be dried up immediately with a dry cloth.

5. Avoid any direct contact of plates , glasses and cups on the table service and use mats at all time to protect the oiled wax surface of the table.

6. If the table was to become marked or scratches please seek professional advice before sanding or attempting a repair yourself.

7. As the oiled wax finish dries out over time a new layer of protection may be required and a good quality furniture bees wax can be applied to keep the table in tip top condition and to keep the table top resistant to liquid spills.
